ASEAN Thrives in Global Services Location Index 2016
Every year, the teams at A.T. Kearney collect and compare information from 55 countries under three criteria (financial attractiveness; people skills and availability; business environment) to publish the Global Services Location Index (GSLI). Now in its seventh edition, GSLI is considered a world-leading research and statistics provider when it comes to the global offshoring industry.
This year, the report witnesses the influence of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the offshoring landscape. The region occupies 5 of the top 20 offshoring destinations, namely Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam – 3 of which AS White calls home. In particular, the Philippines and Malaysia are singled out for their continuing momentum in offshoring capability, predominantly driven by government support and investment, an English-fluent workforce coupled with strong infrastructure and political stability. Both nations also welcome the establishment of major offshoring hubs that will provide tens of thousands of employment opportunities by 2020.
GSLI has, once again, proved that ASEAN is the perfect base for the dynamic opportunities companies require to move forward in today’s challenging economy. With the impact of automation and business process as a service (BPaaS), this highly capable region of the world fast surpassing India and China and becoming ideal destination for those seeking to offshore business functions and access the global talent markets.
