1. Hi! Please introduce yourself. What is your role and your responsibilities at ASW?

I am Bella Tiu and my current role is Underwriting Assistant. I’ve been with ASW for more than 6 years. I assist the client with admin tasks and address brokerage and client requests in a timely manner.

2. How did you start your career journey, and what led you to your present role?

When I was young, I dreamt of becoming a beauty queen. My pageantry career started when I was in college. But everything changed when I started my career as a bank teller. I realized that life is about survival, and you must do whatever it takes to be successful and make your dreams come true, as long as you don’t hurt or offend others.

After a year, I entered the BPO world. I was an online pharmacist, sales agent, customer service representative, technical support representative, and administrative officer. Then at ASW, I became a quality assurance officer, call quality assurance officer, operation support specialist, and now an underwriting assistant. ASW is my second home and family. They have opened a lot of opportunities for me.

3. How do you overcome challenges at work?

Speaking in English is a big challenge that I needed to overcome. I researched, watched English movies, and went to different interviews. For me, every day is a learning process, and you just need to know your purpose and what you really want.

I doubted many times my ability to do the things that I want to do. But then I realized that in this life, you will encounter different people, and not all of them will agree with you. At the end of the day, you are your one true ally. I conquer my fears by trusting myself, being confident, and having faith in God. I am now able to continue my journey where I’ve started to explore everything and not lock myself up in my own box.

4. What do you enjoy most about your current work?

I really love communicating with different people, learning new things from them, and sharing knowledge with them. ASW and our client are very supportive and understanding. Knowing that they trust me 100% in my ability makes me more inspired and motivated to do my duties and to meet their expectations.

5. What has been your most memorable achievement so far in your career?

For me, “achievement” doesn’t mean you have to receive trophies, medals, or certificates. I was able to experience everything that I want in life. Working with different accounts at ASW makes my credentials more valuable. Knowing that you are successful in your own way and being part of the company’s success is more fulfilling.

6. What skills have you developed since joining ASW?

I am more confident now when communicating in English. ASW has provided me with online programs such as marketing, leadership, and strategy courses which have contributed a lot in my career journey.

7. How do you maintain work-life balance?

I love to travel to beaches or forests. It makes me feel recharged to face new challenges. If you have a chance to explore the world, do it. Grab the opportunity and enjoy life as much as you can.

8. Who inspires you, whether personally or professionally, and why?

God, family, and friends inspire me every day. Absorbing all the positivity and knowing that, whatever happens, you will never be alone. It’s enough for me to continue in life and enjoy every moment of it.

9. How would you encourage teammates to create a more inclusive and respectful workplace for everyone?

The moment you inspire them — by showing them how good you are, making them feel comfortable, knowing your boundaries, and providing them with the respect that they deserve — I am 100% sure they will provide you with the same thing. At the end of the day, we are all human. Just spread love, understanding, and acceptance.
