Creating Capacity for Continued Growth: Cassie Reilly, Reillys
Rapid growth brings opportunity, but it also creates new challenges around people, capacity and operations. Cassie knows this firsthand as a second-generation leader helping drive the growth of her family business. Partnering with ASW Global has helped her focus on finding the people and solutions needed to keep the business moving forward.
Here are key takeaways from her conversation with ASW Head of Growth Daniel Breese. Watch the video below for further insights.
Running a Family Business
There was never really much pressure. Same for my siblings. They all came in at different times. I think all of us came into it thinking it’d be short term. We are really a close family. We get along well. So that probably makes it a bit easier. When you like the people you’re working with, you want to impress them, and you want to do good by them. You want us to all get the benefits of the results.
Nurturing Talent Through Team Culture
We all played a lot of team sports, like me and my siblings and my dad. I think we’ve always had that real camaraderie sort of vibe that you get from a team. You want to work for each other, but you want to celebrate together as well. I think we always had the thought process as well that you’re not living to work, we’re working to live.
I’m doing it because we’re around these people more than we see the rest of our families half the time. We’ve always tried to bring a little bit of fun, a little bit of banter, just make it a fun place to be.
I think you get a better return out of your people when they’re happy. That has probably just been the fundamental driver to create a good culture that people want to come to work, they want to be a part of it. They’re driven and they’re motivated for the result.
International Staff: The Solution to Rapid Scaling
We were looking for a solution to a big problem. We were growing really fast. Our systems and everything we had weren’t really supporting the growth at the rate we needed. So, it was falling into our skilled people doing project management and estimating locally here.
I was looking for a solution to free up some of their time. We had a really hard time. We tried hiring locally. The idea of offshore had to sort of come up. And it’s been a really, really good thing for us to just free up some of those tasks that we were having trouble finding a good home for them here.
Our international team is just part of the team. They are just as important as the rest of our team here locally. We grow together. We’ve been together. They are fundamental to our success.
Bringing an Established Partner for Expansion
I would recommend ASW for anyone who is thinking about expanding into an international team to just get started.
The hardest part with anything is to have people that know what they’re doing. They’re already established, which takes the headache out of everything. It just made the whole experience and the path to success so much easier.
