JANUARY – JUNE 2023 NEWSLETTER
As an Australian company, our reporting year is July to June so it is at this time of the year that we reflect on the last twelve months. I am excited to share that over this time our ASW family has grown by more than 450 people or 38%. This is an amazing growth number in a year that not only saw the “War on Talent” making it difficult to attract people but also the Australian economy facing challenges affecting our partners’ growth.
I believe our ability to continue to grow our amazing and diverse family of international talent is because of our business model! To help our partners create and work with a team of amazing international talent. This has seen our partners continue to grow and succeed in tough times while we are still seeing our opportunities and careers develop and grow within the ASW family.
Although we have a great model, it is nothing without our people. Our Talent Acquisition team who finds the best of the best people, our HR and Learning team who support and nurture our people, our Account Managers who maintain our long-distance relationships, our IT guys who solve all of our problems, and importantly our finance and admin teams who make sure we get paid on time, keeping the wheels turning and organising our activities. I recently had the first of a series of half-day catch-ups with our internal teams. This time it was in Manila, and the team came up with some great improvement initiatives which we are looking forward to rolling out over the next 12 months. Especially the ones that are around people development and growth.
Most importantly, the reason we continue to grow is our excellent hardworking professional family. The majority of our growth is either from our partners growing their teams because they are so happy with them or new clients that our partners have referred to us because they want to share their success. This reflects the quality of our ASW family which we cannot talk about without including our extended family: our teammates and managers in Australia, the UK, the US, and New Zealand who are an integral part of who we are. I was lucky to meet a number of them at the first of our partnership events in Melbourne and Sydney recently. These events are designed to help build a community of our partners in Australia so they can share their learnings and experiences.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone over the coming months on our island getaways!
As we refresh our branding direction, ASW Global is proud to share our new vision and mission statements. This is better aligned to who we are, how we behave, and more importantly, who we want to be. Let’s all work together to keep creating the world’s most talented international family.
in building, integrating, and operating highly capable international teams.
Australian companies to meet their business goals by accessing and retaining premium talent in emerging markets, giving that talent the opportunity to grow, earn and develop.
embed international teams into respected Australian businesses both functionally and culturally to deliver enduring and transparent people solutions.
As part of our continued growth, I am happy to share that we are close to adding Thailand to our international family! Our office fit-out is nearing completion and we have appointed Kannika Kongkhamin (Nika) as our ASW Thailand Operations Manager who starts on the 3rd of July. Kannika will attend all our company trips so she can get to see what a great team we have! Our Thailand office will further diversify us as a company and a family, providing more opportunities for all of us including our partners.
Our ASW Partnership Events in Melbourne and Sydney were a resounding success! It was a fantastic opportunity to bring together our client partners and colleagues from various industries. From engaging discussions led by LinkedIn guest speakers to valuable collaborations, the event showcased the supportive spirit of our community. A big THANK YOU to all the attendees and congrats to our weekend getaway winners! We hope to see you in our next event soon! Read more details here.
It has been a very exciting start to 2023, where we have successfully onboarded 23 new client partners, 31 new line managers, and 3 existing clients who have developed new departments.
We welcomed Maritess Buenaobra (Matz) to our Philippines Account Management Team. Matz has been with ASW for over 10 years working for 2 clients and brings years of business processing and people management experience. Matz has hit the ground running onboarding 6 new clients and 31 new staff starters since taking on her new role.
In March this year I was lucky enough to be invited to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the EML BAS Team that spans across our Philippines and Malaysia offices with over 700 staff. It was amazing to be a part of such a big milestone for EML BAS and ASW. The EML BAS team works incredibly hard and are an incremental part of the EML operations. It was great to have EML Managers in attendance including: Don Ferguson – CEO EML Management, Roger Stamford – General Manager Shared Services, Adam Keogh – General Manager Nominal Insurance (Manager who started EML BAS in the Philippines 10 years ago), Adriano Cusmano – Head of Administration Services, and Claire Morgan – Offshore Administration Manager.

In May we had our first Client Partner Events in Melbourne and Sydney. They were great events to bring our client partners together for networking opportunities and share their experiences with their international ASW team members.
We had a client panel at both events including: Sophie O’Halloran from Cleanaway, Mark Dal Pozzo from COG, Quillan Allanson from iPartners, Holly Williams from BizCover, and Sarah Chapman from Device Technologies. We heard how important it is having a Team Leader based in the same location to build the strong culture and performance, having clear business processes in place, communicating KPIs to set the expectation, breaking down the barriers and integrating your team to be one international team. If anyone would like more information about these topics, please reach out to me.
As we reach the midpoint of the year, it is with great pleasure and excitement that I share with you the remarkable journey we had in the first half of 2023. I am thrilled to announce that during this time, our HR team has also expanded with the addition of several talented individuals. These HR members bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team, further enhancing our ability to provide exceptional support and guidance to our employees.
The first half of the year has been filled with exciting activities and significant growth milestones, fostering team unity and personal/ professional development. A highlight was our company-wide movie day, bringing us together to enjoy new films and strengthen our bonds. Our tree-planting activity showcased our commitment to environmental sustainability, nurturing nature for a brighter future.
But we didn’t stop there! Our team’s dedication to wellness and fitness was evident as we joined the Lazada fun run, promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering a sense of community. We also held engaging activities, such as soap making, wellness fairs, fiesta games, and delicious food days which provided opportunities for team members to unwind, socialize, and build stronger relationships in the office.
We’ve also experienced tremendous growth during the first half of the year. I am thrilled to announce that our headcount has increased from 1,300 to an impressive 1,600+ employees. This surge in talent is a testament to our continuous efforts to attract topnotch professionals and create an environment where they can thrive and fuel our collective success.
I encourage everyone to make the most of professional networking on LinkedIn and the wealth of knowledge available on Coursera. These platforms offer unparalleled avenues for growth and development, allowing individuals to enhance their skills, expand their networks, and stay abreast of industry trends.
I am incredibly proud of all of you for your contributions and dedication. The company trips are also coming up and I am as excited as most of you to spend these days with our ASW colleagues!
It’s been a busy quarter for the ASW Talent Acquisition team. In April and May, 63 non-DEA roles were filled, along with 75 EML DEAs.
In June, we are on track to finish this Financial Year with another solid month, and overall successful year. The team has enjoyed Consultant-led best-practice training over the past few months, with topics such as Improving InMail Sourcing Skills, Job Briefing, maximising our Employee Referral Program, Client Care and Advertising. This quarter, we also launched our Candidate Referral Program to reach a wider pool of talent, and our ASW Alumni Program to ensure we can keep in contact with our great people when they leave us.
One of our Core Values at The Talent Consultants is Growth, and the current focus for the Company has been about supporting our people to be their best, because we grow stronger together.
In March, we celebrated 3 significant internal promotions as individuals stepped up into Senior Talent Consultant roles, showcasing their growth and dedication.
They have been undertaking an internal leadership program over the past six months and are key members of the broader leadership team for TTC. In May (with the help of some of our ASW TA team), we rolled out several internal training programs focussed on recruitment skills. We also ran an Assessment Centre to help understand our current areas of specialist capability and broader learning opportunities. Key placement highlights for last quarter include 2 placements in Thailand with Snap-on; our first role with Boston Consulting Group (BCG); 4 placements with Teleperformance; and many more.
It’s been a whirlwind of activity for SOY Digital Agency during the first half of 2023, and we’re excited to share these updates with you.
Last March, the SOY Philippine and Vietnam teams came together at the ASW Global office in Ho Chi Minh City for a productive workshop with ASW CEO Joe Fussell. We’d like to thank Joe for this opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss plans for business growth. It was also a great occasion for our teams to bond and get together face-to-face, enjoying the sights, the sounds, and the culinary delights of Vietnam!
We would like to welcome our latest client Air Conditioning Online, a trusted Australian airconditioning discount store. We provide efficient PPC services to help boost their online presence that will translate into better lead generation. We are also in the process of meeting with potential clients from ASW’s growing roster of partnerships who are interested to explore digital marketing opportunities.
As part of our plans to move the business forward, we recently announced a price increase of our digital marketing services which we will implement starting July 2023. Our new competitive pricing will allow us to enhance our service offerings and provide exceptional value to our clients.
There’s more in store for us as we continue to roll out our plans for 2023, and we’re more than ready for what lies ahead.
I received 2 awards last year in December: Culture Champ Award for Personal Development and Client Spotlight Award (for demonstrating exemplary work performance for ASW client). It would never be possible to achieve this award without the efforts and support of the entire team. I’m happy as my hard work is recognized, and my client allows me to prove myself in my career. A big thanks to Inovayt Finance and ASW for keeping me with the organization up to now.
Recently, I have been promoted to Loan Processing Supervisor. I have learned much in my new role, especially in preparing reports and solving problems. I always love to learn and challenge myself by exposing myself to complex tasks. I always remind myself, ‘Everything is possible and achievable.’
I have been with ASW since January 2018. Throughout these 5 years, there were ups and downs. I’m so happy to see where I am now. Hard work, loyalty, and diligence are important in making the best employee. I am grateful to everyone who has helped me to achieve this milestone.
I am absolutely delighted that I was recognized for my contributions to the company. It feels great to know that our clients are grateful, happy and apply the ideas and suggestions we provided. I would like to thank my mentors Ken Caoyonan and Matz Buenaobra, my team in BAS EML, Riel Faustino and Adriano Cusmano for supporting me throughout my career as a Team Leader. They have guided and helped me a lot in achieving the goals that I want for myself and for my team.
I applied and was chosen as a Team Leader for Device Technologies. The role and responsibilities are pretty much the same as BAS EML. Being a Team Leader in a new account helped me to assess myself again, where I’m good at and where I need improvement. I believe my adaptability, professionalism, strong work ethics, and leadership skills brought me to this new career path.
ASW’s development programs and trainings introduced a lot of ways to be an efficient and effective Team Leader, which helped me discover new ways and applications on time management, task prioritization and team management.
I will celebrate my 8th year with ASW this September 2023. I feel ecstatic as I never expected that I would stay this long in a company. I feel grateful to be part of ASW as they really care for the welfare of their employees and always do their best to meet our expectations. My most memorable experience is the mid and year-end parties and any activities that we get together as one team. I’ve learned a lot about patience, being empathic, and how to be a good and effective leader with the teams that I was and currently part of, and the people I meet every day.
I am delighted to share my journey as I step into the role of Acting Team Lead of the Medhealth Offshore Commercial Insights team, a significant milestone that has positively impacted my professional growth within the company.
In my new role as Acting Team Lead, I have the honor of overseeing and coordinating various tasks, with the aim of fostering effective communication and ensuring the most ideal condition to bring out the best of our people. This position holds a great deal of accountability, as I play a key role in driving our team’s collective success.
The promotion marks a pivotal moment in my career, opening doors for further development. It serves as a recognition of my dedication, hard work, and the never-ending strive to do better. Taking on this new role has provided me with valuable opportunities to expand my skill set and enhance my leadership capabilities.
My promotion is a reflection of ASW values and culture, which prioritize teamwork, honesty, continuous improvement, and personal development. Some other factors that I think have contributed greatly to my advancement include the commitment to excellence, adaptability to new challenges, and embracing advanced technologies. I am thrilled to leverage these qualities in my new leadership role to contribute to our team’s success.
Being promoted to Acting Team Lead fills me with pride and gratitude. I am excited about the challenges and achievements that lie ahead.
