Hieu Pham: Creating Solutions That Make A Difference

Behind every successful solution is someone who thrives on solving complex challenges. Meet Hieu Pham from ASW Vietnam, a Solutions Engineer and one of our Client Spotlight Awardees. Read on to discover the experiences, values, and mindset that have shaped his journey at ASW.

1. Tell us about yourself and your career journey. What led you to become a Solutions Engineer?

I began my IT career in early 2015 and moved into cyber security in mid-2017. Over the years, I focused on network & system security, working on monitoring and managing security systems across enterprise environments. Those led me to a Solutions Engineer role, where I can design secure architectures, translate requirements into deliverables, and guide customers through implementations.

2. What attracted you to join ASW Vietnam? What do you enjoy most about working at ASW?

I was first introduced to an Australian cyber security firm and was offered a role in their Technologies & Platform Engineering team. Through a labour contract managed by ASW Vietnam’s services, I was able to join in December 2021. This arrangement let me work directly on the firm’s projects while benefiting from local Vietnam employment support.

What I enjoy the most about working at ASW Vietnam is the young and professional environment, plus the chance to collaborate with international teams globally.

3. Can you describe your current role and responsibilities?

I work in cyber security delivery under the title of “Solutions Engineer”. I consult, design, and implement security platform solutions across identity, network, microsegmentation, and data protection. My responsibilities include requirements gathering, creating solution architecture, integrating products, and producing documentation. I also handle knowledge transfer and post-deployment support.

4. What’s an experience that made you appreciate working at ASW even more and why?

ASW offered a flexible work-from-home arrangement during the pandemic. I joined ASW Vietnam at a time when the uncertainty and fear of COVID-19 were still weighing heavily on many of us. The policy did not just give us a comfortable remote workspace; it also guaranteed the absolute safety of both the employees and our families. Because the company took away the anxiety of the health crisis, I felt completely secure to focus, innovate, and perform at my best.

5. Congratulations on being one of ASW’s Client Spotlight Awardees! What does this recognition mean to you? Is there a particular client project that stands out to you?

Working across different geography and time zones can be challenging, but the award confirms that our cross-border model works and motivates me to keep improving myself, strengthening my commitment to do my best, and consistently delivering high-quality results.

One standout project involved a large enterprise client where my team deployed unified identity and access control solutions. It required careful orchestration across identity, network, and business teams to enable secure, seamless access without disrupting day-to-day operations.

6. What’s one lesson you’ve learned from working with international clients or colleagues?

Early communication and expectation setting matter most. Cultural and time zone differences make alignment harder, so I prioritise milestones and regular checkpoints.

7. What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I enjoy playing video games and listening to classical music in my free time.

8. Who has been your greatest influence in your professional and personal life?

I have been influenced by every leader I have worked with across my career. Each one taught me different lessons, and their guidance shaped how I approach solutions and problem solving.

One of the greatest influencers has been my first cyber security leader, who offered and helped me transition to cyber security from general IT. Instead of thinking only about operations and support stuff, I had to think in terms of risk, threat models, and defence layers. The leader taught me to translate technical actions into risk-focused decisions, to communicate using security language that stakeholders can trust. I learned to design solutions that reduce measured risk rather than simply applying tools. That coaching changed how I approach integrations and solution design today.

9. What aspects of Vietnamese culture influence the way you work?

Vietnamese culture’s emphasis on relationships and long-term commitment guides how I engage with clients and colleagues.

10. What advice would you give to colleagues who want to build stronger relationships with clients?

Listen actively and align on business outcomes, not just technical requirements.

11. When people remember working with you, what do you hope they remember most?

I hope they remember my reliability, practical technical guidance, and commitment to making secure solutions easy to operate.
