Ivan Bergonia: Passion with a Purpose
From his early days in high school to his present work at ASW Philippines, Ivan’s laser-like focus on software development has allowed him to cultivate a deep expertise and passion for the field. We’re truly lucky he joined our team! Learn who inspires him the most, the values he holds dear, and what drives his team to succeed.
1. Hi! Please introduce yourself. What is your role and responsibilities at ASW?
My name is Jonnel Ivan Bergonia. I started working for AS White in March 2023 as a Senior Full Stack Developer for one of its client partners, APRA. Our team is actively focused on building web and mobile applications for the client’s next-generation SaaS platform, built using cutting-edge technologies, ensuring high-performing, scalable cloud-based solutions.
2. Can you share a brief overview of your professional journey and how you ended up in your current role?
I discovered my passion for software development in high school and pursued it relentlessly. Despite initial challenges landing IT roles after college, I gained valuable experience in various jobs. Continuously learning and honing my skills, I seized opportunities such as web development training in 2015. This led to roles as a web developer, where I further developed my programming and leadership abilities. In 2023, I embraced the chance to join ASW as a Senior Full Stack Developer.
3. Outside of work, do you have any hobbies or activities that you are passionate about?
I spend time with my family or sometimes travel with friends. I also love playing computer and mobile games whenever I have free time.
4. Who has been the biggest influence or role model in your life?
I really looked up to my late dad. He was an amazing mechanical engineer and a loving dad. He always thought of us before himself, working hard so we could finish our studies. I feel bad I couldn’t repay him while he was alive. Now, I just try to be there for my mom as much as I can.
5. How do you stay motivated, especially during challenging situations?
The team and I work together to discuss the problem and do brainstorming until we come up and agree with the appropriate solution. Working together with one goal keeps us motivated to overcome those challenges.
6. Congratulations on your Client Spotlight award! What was the feedback from the client that led to this recognition? What’s your technique in providing exceptional service for our clients?
APRA is very happy with the team’s work and effort. As one of the employees who received this award, I always put forth my best effort to finish and deliver quality work on time without any issues, if possible. I also easily get along with the team, making it easier for me to work with them.
7. Is there a particular goal that you would like to achieve (professional or personal)?
In my professional life, I strive to enhance my current skills and acquire new ones through training and certifications. I believe in utilizing my expertise to make a meaningful impact on the world around us.
8. What values are most important to you, and why?
Wherever we go, I think these three values are the most important: empathy, integrity, and always learning. Understanding others makes relationships stronger. Being honest and doing the right thing builds trust and credibility. And learning and discovering new things helps us grow as a person, personally and professionally.
9. What would you like people to know about where you’re from (The Philippines)?
Visit the Philippines. It has many breathtaking beaches and stunning natural wonders. From beautiful white sands to vibrant coral reefs, its coastal treasures offer unparalleled beauty and adventure.
10. What advice/inspiring words would you like to share with your colleagues at ASW?
Follow your passion. It holds the key to unlocking your fullest potential and leading a life filled with purpose and joy.
“If enthusiasm and passion are present, people tend to be more resilient when encountering obstacles. People who are passionate about what they do, rather than just working for the money alone, tend to have more positive outlooks that can help them overcome difficulty through problem-solving.”
