Mohd Haziq Ishak: Tech-Savvy Team Player

One of our 2024 Culture Champ awardees, Mohd Haziq Ishak from ASW Malaysia truly personifies our value of Teamwork. Learn more about his career journey in IT, his favourite work-life balance activities, and what he enjoys most about working at ASW.
1. Hi! Please introduce yourself. What is your role and your responsibilities at ASW?
My name is Haziq, and I joined ASW Global in 2023. I’m part of the Onsite Technical Support team for the Malaysia site. My key responsibilities include maintaining and configuring hardware and software, managing IT assets, keeping accurate records, troubleshooting technical issues, maintaining thorough documentation of incidents and resolutions, and conducting basic training sessions for users on new systems or applications.
2. What attracted you to pursue a career in IT? What was your career journey before joining ASW?
Ever since I was a child, I’ve always been fascinated by everything related to IT—hardware, software, and all things tech. I can’t even count how many computers or laptops “sacrificed” themselves in my journey of learning (some are still my little secret to this day!). That curiosity and passion naturally led me to pursue a career in IT.
My career started as a trainee at T-Systems, followed by an apprenticeship at Dell. I was later offered a permanent role as a Client Technical Support Senior Associate. After a few years, I moved to NTT Data Services where I served as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and eventually became a Team Lead, all based in Cyberjaya. During the pandemic, I transitioned to full-time remote work. In 2023, seeking a new challenge and a fresh environment, I joined ASW Global—and here I am today, excited to grow and contribute alongside an amazing team.
3. Congratulations on being a Culture Champ awardee for Teamwork! What lessons or insights have you learned about teamwork here at ASW?
Thanks so much. I don’t think I deserve this alone. It’s because of everyone’s support here. At ASW, I’ve seen how working together across teams and cultures helps us solve problems better. It’s shown me that every contribution, big or small, really matters.
4. How do you motivate or support your teammates during high-pressure projects?
I try to stay calm and focused. I check in regularly, help where I can, and remind everyone that we’re in it together. A little encouragement goes a long way to keep our team motivated.
5. What are three words that best describe your team?
Responsive, problem-solving, dependable!
6. What do you enjoy most about working in your current role?
I enjoy being part of a great team and working for a supportive company. It makes solving IT challenges rewarding and helps foster a positive work environment.
7. How do you maintain work-life balance? What are your hobbies or personal interests outside of work?
I focus on completing important tasks first to avoid work spilling into personal time. I take breaks and delegate tasks when needed. As an IT professional, I use apps to stay organized and always make time for hobbies.
For my hobbies and personal interests outside of work, I enjoy web surfing to stay updated, improve my problem-solving skills, and learn new things. Then for physical hobbies, I enjoy running, futsal, and football. It is important to have hobbies that balance my mental and physical health.
8. Who has been a major influence or role model in your career or personal growth?
A major influence on my career and personal growth has been everyone around me, especially my family and friends. My family has always supported and encouraged me, keeping me motivated during tough times. My friends have offered valuable advice and guidance, helping me grow both professionally and personally. Their support has played a big part in shaping who I am today.
9. Are there any cultural values or traditions from Malaysia that you carry into your work life?
In my work life, I carry values like teamwork and harmony, which are central to Malaysian culture. I emphasize politeness, patience, and tolerance, recognizing the importance of building positive relationships with colleagues.
10. If you could share one piece of advice with your colleagues to help them succeed in their roles, what would it be?
Stay open to learning and embrace challenges.
