Vinh Hoang Khai Nguyen: Automation Ace in Action

Read more about his professional growth in the IT industry, what motivates him, and why Vietnam has become a global hub for IT talent.

1. Hi! Can you tell us more about the role you play for the client?

I’m Vinh, and I’m currently working as an Automation Tester (for our client partner). In my role, I am responsible for writing automation scripts, executing and maintaining them, as well as identifying bugs. My main goal is to ensure that projects such as INSIGHT and SCTP run smoothly and meet quality standards before every new build is released.

2. What attracted you to pursue a career in IT? What was your career journey before joining ASW?

I enjoy improving processes and solving problems through technology, particularly in automation testing. Automation allows me to combine coding, business logic, and system design to make project workflows faster and more reliable. I find it very satisfying to build something that reduces manual effort and helps teams work more efficiently.

I started my IT career about 10 years ago as a developer. Then, I had the opportunity to work onsite in Korea as an automation tester, and that experience made me fall in love with the automation field. After that, I found the automation position at ASW, where I’ve been focusing on this field and continuing to work in automation roles up to now.

3. As a Client Spotlight awardee, what project do you think really stood out?

I’ve been working with the Steadfast Technologies team and the projects that really stood out to me were INSIGHT and SCTP. Both started with the same Selenium automation framework, but when newer technology like Playwright came along, the SCTP project was completely transformed into a new framework that was much faster and easier to maintain. It was a great opportunity to learn modern tools, improve performance, and make the automation process more efficient overall.

4. What do you enjoy most about working in your current role?

What I enjoy most is the collaboration. I like the teamwork involved in solving problems, sharing knowledge, and seeing how automation helps the whole team work more efficiently. Everyone is supportive, we share ideas freely, and we all work toward the same goal. I also appreciate the trust and recognition from the client, which makes the job more fun and motivating.

5. What’s your go-to productivity tip or habit that keeps you motivated at work?

I usually start my day by checking the task list assigned to me every sprint. Then, I check emails or messages from the team to see if there is an urgent issue to prioritise. I also take short breaks to reset my focus. This balance helps me stay organised, efficient, and motivated to keep improving my work.

6. What are your hobbies or personal interests outside of work?

I enjoy playing games with my friends and my son, playing chess, travelling to explore different countries, and photography. It’s a mix of fun, experience, and capturing interesting moments.

7. Who has been your biggest influence, personally and professionally?

My biggest influence has been my family. They have always supported me in everything and continue to motivate me to do better. At work, my current leader Dimple has been the most influential to me. She’s not like a boss — she’s more like a friend who I can share everything with, both about work and life. She always gives me useful advice, helps allocate my tasks, and motivates me to keep learning and improving my skills every day.

8. What makes Vietnam a great place for global companies to build their tech teams?

We have a lot of talented and passionate engineers. They are hardworking, quick to learn new things, and able to adapt to new technologies. The teamwork and communication are also very good, which makes collaboration with international clients smooth and effective.

9. What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

Focus on learning, not just completing tasks. In automation, tools and frameworks keep evolving, so having a growth mindset is essential. That helped me grow as an automation engineer and improve with every new project.
